computer goes really slow

when ever i go into a program that uses a lot of RAM and i close it the computer will go really slow for about 10 mins. i think its like dumping the memory or something. im not sure. so is there anyway i can make it so it dumps faster or what ever its doing?

1) What is your OS?
2) are you running games?
3) have you cleaned out the excess files with **** cleanup?

im using windows xp home.
yea i do run games but thats never happened befor.
ive just formatted my computer so there isnt that much excess files on it.

1.which programs in particular do that or does it do that in every program you run
2. if they are non system critical ones, set their priority low

have a look at how many processes are running, check for dodgy ram, defrag. if its none of them, go HERE after which post a hjt log in security and the web forum.
