Curious about POST message

This is not a problem (at least so far) because everything's working, but I'm curious. My ASUS P5P800 w/ AMI BIOS states: First master IDE device not detected. 1st slave IDE device not detected. 2nd master IDE device-WD2500JB, 2nd slave IDE device Maxtor etc., 3rd master, 3rd slave detected--

So, everything's detected, BUT- there's only two IDE controllers on the mobo- max 4 devices. How the heck does it manage to miss channel 1, but find 2 and 3, when there's only two??

I find it odd.

Any Sata onboard?
they can be read as ide.

It counts the SATA devices as IDE too?

My Abit IC7-g Counts my Sata as ide 3 4 5 6
but only in the post screen not in the Bios.
Hew if you don't have Sata, disable it and raid support.

Yeah, I don't have any SATA drives, and do have it disabled. That's what I thought it might be looking at, at first, but it does say "IDE" devices, and it looks for both master and slave. And, Soc, like yours, it only says it in the POST screen. The BIOS pages read as they should.

As I said, it's no big deal, but it's puzzling, and makes me think. And I pretty much HATE to be forced to think! Thanks for your input, though, guys.

(it's a mystery, I guess)
