hey rustam i knwo you've had a lot of request but Id like to make one so i may find some hope i have a computer i bought from high school when its lease was up it orginally had all sorts of blocks on it as i purchased it i was told the blocks would be removed and it would function normally well of course it does not have the blocks taken off over a course of a summer i have tried everything its a dell inspiron 600m with XP pro not only is the BIOS locked but it has admin passowrd :( please help me out the service tag i think it says is 6L60W71 thanks

Thanks for that but I have to get pass the BIOS password first. I don't think the disc drive works anyway because of the noise it makes. The bios password screen still comes up even without the drive in the bay. If you can help me get the password for service tag #2Q4341S-595B, I would be forever grateful.

I am trying to find the location of the 24c04/24lc16b eeprom chip that holds the bios password so it can be reset. I have found the information in another thread about how to go about this but I cannot find a chip on the mobo that corresponds with this number and there are ALOT of 8 leg chips on the board. Anyone have information on this? This is a Latitude 110L unit manufactured about a year ago according to records and purchased used at a resale shop. Help :)

There may be many 8-legged chips on the board, but never more than 1 or 2 EEProm chips. Some boards have a 24LC256 or 93C46 chip for a built in LAN, but if you use a PCMCIA NIC/LAN card, then you would have just one chip. If you will post the type number, i will tell you what I think. I have not had feedback on your model. All of the EEProm chips used for Service Tag and Password storage so far have been 24 series and no more than 16 kilobits of NVRAM(the last two numbers)Dell has taken to hiding the Chip you are looking for under Hardware, heatsinks, black insulation sheets, Harddrive or CD Drive Chutes, etc.

hello all i spent a straight 16 hours taken the D600 to bits lol just to find this chip so i am just want to make sure i have the right chip before i blow the thing up ,,the number on the chip,i think i need to short is 24LCO4B/sNxxxx,thanks in advance to anyone with an answer for me

need config password for dell

Rustam,

Not many posts from you recently but I do hope you're listening in. I have a similar problem to most people on this thread. Details are as follows:

My laptop is a Dell CPx H450GT.

I tried to replace my old 6 GB Seagate hard drive with a 40GB drive which came from my friend's Compaq Presario 2200.

After replacing the drive and putting in drive bay, as soon as it starts up in briefly shows Windows XP start up window then almost immediately goes into a DOS screen for less than a second (there appears to be an error message which says I have to check on my configuration or harddisk, etc.) then restarts the laptop and the cycle repeats...loads Windows XP for a few seconds then goes to the DOS screen for less than a second and then restarts again.

When I press F2 just before the Windows XP screen appears, its brings me to the BIOS Set-Up menu. Toggling thru the pages using Alt-P, I reach the last page where the passwords are located. Only the admin password is enabled and the rest are disabled. I can only enter the admin password once I enable the config password. This is where I get stuck since I do not know the config password. I have tried using the Master Password Generator v2.20 masterPW.exe, used the service tag 1NEKE**-D35B and came out with a password dhxzyi0t (that's a zero before the 't'). I tried using this password in the config password but it did not work. I guess this password would work for the admin password but not for the config password.

Can you help me?

My laptop is Dell CPx H450GT
Once again my service tag is 1NEKE**-D35B
my express service tag is 27-715-82

Many thanks in advance.

Noel

Hi Guys

Same story, but slight twist. I was given a C400, no floppy or cd, and was told that I could access the BIOS password using the programme on the drive. Unfortunately the drive has an XP password I cant access, so off to Dell I go, who tell me that this machine is no longer in warranty, and can not (will not?) help. The service tag is BR7ZH0J, all I want to do is attach a CD drive to overwrite the old XP. Unless someone knows how to do that without a docking station? lol
As an aside I have tried latitude.exe but the code it gives me 3EH3M333 is not valid..... any ideas?

Hi I have a Latitude D500 that I can not get past the bios password screen
Sevice tag CZFN741
Express service code 28263980737
Any Help would be great,Thanks.....

Dell Dimension 5000 Desktop

Hi guys,

Read this thread through and have the same problem as everyone else - a friend of mine has a Dell with a system password set that he doesn´t know. He had his grand kids visit recently, would appear that they´ve been messing around and somehow managed to set it.

Difference with this machine is that it´s a desktop, not a laptop. Does this change the situation at all? I´ve tried removing the BIOS battery, but that didn´t make any difference. Am I still looking for the same type of chip on a desktop, or are they different?

Thanks in advance for any help any one can give.

Graham

Rustam-Please help

I posted my problem somewhere else on the board and then found your posts and replies.

Heres my info,
Dell Ispriron 4100
Service Tag 4XBQH11
Express Service Code 10722224053
Windows XP

And the one KID has really messed it up!
"This computer system is protectected by a password authentication system..."

Thanks for your help!

I received a Dell inspiron 8000 from my sister inlaw without receiving any knowledge as to what the boot up password is and am unable to find out. Since i do not have the administrative password to acess the laptop, i am trying to find a way to get into BIOS to change the password. i have tried shorting out the BIOS chip pin 3 and 6, i also tried to ground pin 5 or 6 and both were unsuccessful. The boot up screen is this "This computer system, #74TSO1-595B is protected by a password authentication system. you cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password." "Please type in teh primary or adminstrator password and press <enter>." This is what appears on the gray screen. The service tag number is 74T7S01, the express service code is 15528412801. Any help in accessing or bypassing the password, would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
This did not work for me, but It may for you. I have a copy of latitude_masterpw.exe and it created this number for your code.
Let me know if it work.

Enter service tag, HDD serial number, or nothing at all: DXGXM0J595B
DXGXM0J595B --> c87993cn
MPWs calculated by newer BIOSes:
DXGXM0J595B-D35B --> vgf1pwpp

Dell Passwords

Hi,
I did manage to get in with help from dell but now this is what it says...
Primary hard disk 0 not found-no bootable devices strike f1 to retry or f2 for utility setup.

I did manage to change the date and time, but that's it. I removed the removable hard drive and put it back in, but NOTHING.

If you have any other suggestions, I'll be glad to try them. But I'm not GURU.
Whish I was.

Thanks,

T

Can you change the boot order on page 2 of BIOS setup? Does your HDD line entry on the same page show an an indicator it is enabled? It would help if you included your mdel laptop. You may just have a bad harddrive.
Sorry, I did not see your previous post. ON that model, if the HDD is disabled, there will not be an arrowhead on the left end. To reenable it if this is the case, Highlight it with the arrow keys and then press the Space Bar. The KID may have done it!!

Dell Craptop

The boot order is this...Diskette Drive, Internal HDD, CD/DVD/CDRW. Thats the order and they all have the Arrows to the left. On the first page
it says primary hard drive NONE. Below that is has Diskette A&B Not installed.
I do have the external floppy drive but I haven't hooked it up. I did manage to run the diagnostic disk, but the others disk's are at my brothers and I'll get them this weekend. I did remove the hard drive and reseat it, all the prongs look good nothing seems to be externally wrong. I also activated the Modular Bay HDD and restarted. I didn't know if that would make a difference, turned it off and still nothing.
Do you have any idea what it would cost to take somewhere and get it fixed?
I hate to trash it because it keeps the kids of of mine(until now)

Thanks again,
T

Bios Password needed

Rustam,
My wife's brother gave her a Dell Latitude CPx. I was trying to upgrade to XP and I got the bios locked, would you be so kind as to help us out? The Service tag is FDELP**-595B. Dell won't help, it's abrick without your help.
Thanks in advance

To tlee

Have you made any changes to the drive since it last worked? Not installing the IDE Adapter PLUG on the standard 44 pin Interface of the drive is a common mistake when installing a new Harddrive, but I did not get the impression that was the case here. Dell uses a proprietory IDE Adapter Plug on all their Laptops to connect the drive to the board; without it there is no connection. If you have that plug in place, I would feel very strongly that your HDD has failed and will need replacing. If you replace it, don't forget to swap the IDE plug from the old drive to the new one. Dell does not cover this in their manuals
