Downloading new driver for GPU

Ok this may be one of the stupidest questions on here but I want to make sure I do this right.

When downloading the latest driver for my GPU do I need to uninstall the old drive or is the new driver more like a patch where I dont have to do anything other than download?

99% of the time you don't have to, as long as you haven't changed the GPU, but just want to update the driver. The new driver should overwrite the old one.

Zipperman it is another term a graphics card or video card take your pick.

To be more precise, GPU refers to the actual Graphics Processing Unit on the graphics card, but some people use it as a synonym for 'graphics card'.
