EA confirms upcoming Battlefield game will launch on current and next-gen consoles

A no-brainer: For EA, it was really a pretty easy decision to support both console generations. Considering the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S only launched in November and given the aforementioned inventory and scalper issues, EA would be losing out on a massive install base if it didn’t put out a version of Battlefield for the PS4 and Xbox One.

A PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S won’t be required to play the next iteration in EA’s popular Battlefield franchise.

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson during the company’s latest earnings call confirmed that the next game in the long-running first-person shooter franchise will be available for both current-gen (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) and next-gen systems. That’s especially good news for gamers that haven’t yet been able to get their hands on a new console due to inventory issues as well as those that are still milking value from current-gen machines.

Wilson also noted that they have four studios focused on making the game “the best possible Battlefield it can be.”

Earlier this week, the official Twitter account for Battlefield teased a potential reveal in June.

Oh, and the game is also coming to the PC, should you have little interest in playing it on a console.

The new Battlefield game is expected sometime in the third quarter of this year.

They previously said it would not come to last gen. This is disappointing. Would have loved to see a bf game that pushed new tech instead of a glorified PS4 game.

You'll have a chance to buy that will all the addons in three years when this one is abandoned.

Not that the new techis particularly exciting, given that you have the series S holding this gen back and potentially two PS5 power targets with the next PS5 model. What even is "new tech" anymore?

The series S is way more powerful than PS4. The cpu is what matters. They can always lower the graphics for series S but to get a game to run on PS4 it basically has to be an entirely different game compared to what we would get if it didn't support last gen.

Not really surprised by this seeing how a lot of people can't get their hands on "current" gen systems. Also, it is time to stop referring to the Series S/X and PS5 consoles as next gen. They are the current gen systems. Next gen systems are the ones that will replace the Series S/X and PS5 in like 7 years or so. :)

After BF2 they just went in the wrong direction. The stupid auto repair and heal ruin the game, they render engineers and medics useless encouraging camping and solo playing, and then the 3rd person view for vehicles.
They had a good opportunity with BF V return to ww2 in name only, no great patriotic war which was basically ww2.

BF4 was cross gen and it was great on PS4, the difference between the PS3 version was bigger maps and higher texture quality oh and 60fps Vs 30fps. If anything it just means there will be a bigger player base as last gen players will be able to play against New Console owners.
