Error Caused by a Device Driver

that bsod is porbably caused by bad hardware. replacing the cpu is a highly unlikely fix. have you made any recent hardware changes, or changed drivers? if not done so already, update all of your device drivers.

the same problem

Unfortunately I have the same problem as previous writers :( Still restarts, "error caused by a device driver" and while I am having BSoD there are "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONEPAGED_AREA", or "BAD_POOL_CALLER", or "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT"... Also I have started program called "memtest" and so far I had 780 errors... It is still working :( (I am using other pc). As others do, I add my 5 minidumps. Oh, I've forgotten - sometimes I also have "error caused by a graphics driver" but I updated nvidia drivers, nothing changed, I installed back "original" drivers and problem still happens :( :/ And that 780 errors in memory...

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Take out your ram modules, and clean the contacts with an eraser. Blow away the remnants and replace, then run the Memtest programme again and check for errors.

If after doing this Memtest is still showing errors, then change the ram.

If after changing the ram, the bsod`s continue then maybe your psu could be at fault.

same thing happening to me

HI,

I am having a the same problem, my Windows XP keeps on restarting. It shuts down and reboots at various times.
Mostly when trying to switch users, it will restart. I get the same message from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis saying it is a device driver. I turned off the "Automatic Restart" option but it still restarts and I never get a blue screen. After the reboot a .dump file is created but i cant read it. How can i find out why XP is crashing? How can I read the .dmp file? and will it give me an error so I can post it here? Thanks.

i'd suspect a memory problem. run the windows memory tester (find it through google) or memtest.

i also has exp frequent bsod...i have reformatted my pcs so no more minidumps files...but will this shot helps?
hope some1 can help me...
reformat a number of times but problem still persist...

a few questions

I, too, am having a similar "caused by device driver error"

I ran memtest and came up with some 5000 errors for just one run of tests 1-8.

I have a feeling that my ram is bad.

How do you view and convert your dmp files to txt?

Could someone help me read these?

HI,

Could someone help me read these? Or tell me how? I need to fix this problem.

Crash during game

My system is pretty stable and clean, however when I play certain games It will crash periodically, the crashes happen most often in Battelfield 1942. I've updated everyhing I can think of and I still crash. The error message blames it on a device driver. I have attached my dxdiag and a zip of the last 4 dumps. Thanks to anyone for their help :grinthumb

Crashed at nVidia Display Card Driver. Upgrade nVidia Display Card Driver to latest patch or install nVidia version 61.77 as it is a stable version

Your minidumps are inaccessible by microsoft windbg and it implies that your windows crashes with hardware problem. Hence the dumps were taken with errors.

I went to 3DGURU and dl'd the 76.5 drivers for the 6800. The hangs in Lockon have quit and my pc only crashed once during BF1942 today and I did turn off the lightmaps and shadows. I give it a week and see what happens :approve: I may have to go back to 61.77

Hello all!

For the past week or so I've been having much the same/similar problem that alot of people seem to be posting about on this thread.

Up until recently I've never had a prob... Now what happens is a reboot upon game loading. Two examples are enemy territory and republic commando. I'm not having any probs with any other applications or media. Just with games.

Of course, I receieve a BSOD as soon as I attempt to load a game with the following error code but no reference to any files.

***STOP 0x0000008E (0xC000008E, 0x00541DDE, 0xF2C559B0, 0x00000000)

Now what's really confusing me, is that I reformatted today to try and fix prob. I installed a game or two and they ran straight away without any rebooting. However, once I had restarted and attemtped to run them again, the BSOD was back, forcing a reboot.

Furthermore... certain other games will still run, however, the requirements for them to run correctly are alot less than the more power hungry games that will no longer run...

I have checked RAM and I'm fairly sure it's not the prob, as memtest reports no errors. However, I'm under the impression from research that it is A) A driver problem with my gf4800ti, which, I know is outdated now but has never given me a prob before. B) The card itself is overheating or gone faulty.

@cpc2004, I see you have extensive knowledge in these areas and have been providing great assistance I would be ever so greatful if you or someone else could take a peak at my included minidumps and perhaps shed some slight on what might need replacing/re-installing.

On a final note, I have the latest 71.89 Nvidia drivers and have attemtped installing earlier drivers but to no avail, however, as I have said, I havent had a prob up until now and have always been able to install the latest drivers without a prob.

Thanks for your time!

EDIT: Since this post, I have installed and successfully run several games, including Swat 4, Return of the King and Battle for Middle Earth. Therefore, I appear to be having a specific problem with certain games only... drivers?!?!

run prime95 tests to determine whether or not your problems are caused by heat. use google to find + dl

Three of your minidumps have the same symptom and the culprit is nVidia display card driver. Install version 61.77 as it is a stablle version.

Hello cpc2004

Thanks for taking a look, since my last post, I've tried rolling back to previous drivers, tried one from the 4x.xx and I've also tried the recommended 61.77 but to no avail...

Once again, some games are loading and playing fine, whereas others will just reboot as soon as I attempt to run/load them.

Generally, if I do a clean install of a game and then run the game, it will load fine first time and play fine, however, if I then reboot or simply close the game and leave it for a while, the reboot problem and BSOD will surface on the second attempt to run/load the game...

I'm getting very frustrated with this as you can imagine as I primarily use my machine to play games...

I'm going to switch out the 4800ti and temporarily put in an oldish 9200 pro and see what results I get. Somebody has also suggested to me that the PSU may be on its way out or HD may be failing...

I kept getting the same message as well as the feedback screens from Microsoft. I kept ignoring them for a while. They wouldn’t go away, so I thought I might as well start doing something about them. I found that each Knowledgebase article led to two or three other Knowledgebase articles. Before long, I had a pile of papers spilling off my desk and was “working” with files, subfolders and whatnot that I never dreamed were inside my computer.

It was interesting and very time consuming, but it didn’t help. Also, I knew that, with my record, it wouldn’t be long before I really screwed something up.

Then, I stumbled across a software package by the name of “Registry Mechanic.” I ran it a few times and haven’t had a problem for two weeks (knock on wood). I don’t know if that software fixed the problem or it was something else I did. But since I have already paid for it, I’ll continue to run it every week or so – just in case.

By the way, I do not work for whoever makes that software. I had never heard of them until they popped up on a Google search.

Random BSOD

Hi,
I've been having problems with my new Sony VIAO (RB42G) computer that I just purchased last week (Windows Media Center 2005; I gig 3200 RAM; Intel Pentium 4 Processor) . In addition, I bought an ATI Radeon 700PRO card to install in the VIAO. It will randomly restart, so I set my computer to create minidumps. The problem hasn't been bad...yet, but it's annoying. I've seen that a lot of problems happen to be caused by the video card or its drivers, but I'm not sure if my card is the trouble maker. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yummytofu5,

The debug report shows that the culprit is SYMEVENT which is nortan anti-virus.
BugCheck 1000008E, {c0000005, a6c212b7, a510693c, 0}
Probably caused by : SYMEVENT.SYS ( SYMEVENT+b2b7 )

Upgrade Norton AV to most current patch or downlevel Norton AV to a lower level. You may de-install Norton AV and install NOMAD32.
