EV battery prices set to plummet, dramatic 50% drop predicted by 2026

EVs are utterly worthless as small cars.
Some folk just don't like the idea of 0-60 times of under 3 seconds, of vehicles with almost zero maintenance, of filling up at home for $10 and waking up to a full tank each day or of driving around in near silence. Here in the UK though we won't be able to buy new ICE engined cars after 2030.

Nonsense.

- Small EVs are performance DOGS. Look at the new EV Mini Cooper. It's slower than the IC Mini. It weighs a lot more and only has a 110 mile range. And when it hits 15 years and the battery dies, you can just throw your EV in the trash bin. An IC Mini can driven for many decades.
- EVs require significant maintenance. The most obvious is the requirement to wait for long periods of time to charge.
- People who live in apartments and don't have in-house chargers will never be able to 'wake up to a full tank each day'.
- EVs are not quieter inside than an IC during normal operation. Most noise is caused by the tire-road interaction.
- Sorry to hear that the UK government is ram-rodding EVs down your throat. They really don't care about the English people. Sucks to live in UK.

The Mini Cooper SE has a range of 250 miles and 0-60 times under 7 seconds. I would of thought that's adequate. There's also the Renault 5 EV or MG4 with similar specs for less money. We've already established that those people without private parking won't benefit so much from an EV - repeating this endlessly doesn't make it any more true. EV's are quieter - I suggest you take a test ride in one of the current generation Teslas and see how it compares to your own car. Most people with EV's here seem to really enjoy them.

If you need to drive over 200 miles per day or live in an apartment or live in the frozen north then EV's might not be for you.

Profit margins???? To the best of my knowledge, only Tesla has any profit. Ford has encountered record losses with EV. GM is in the same boat, and none of them are remotely affordable, and several EV makers have gone under. Unless it's a complete commodity crash, I doubt it will have the rosy results Goldman envisions.

This is precisely why they will use it to take profit because they need to recoup their losses and get into a positive revenue position. And Tesla lost money for years and still builds poorly made vehicles not much better generally than Stellantis products which routinely share the bottom placement in reliability surveys.

I'm looking to buy a Model 3 as my next car so I was a bit concerned to read that but I couldn't find anything to back that up. Their early cars had issues with panel alignment and door handles. A few others talk about having to replace those new fancy digital headlamps. Most people just state how reliable their cars are and that they've only replaced tyres and windscreen wipers after a couple of 100K miles. I suppose that stands to reason as there aren't a lot of moving parts to go wrong (compared to an ICE vehicle). If you drive them like a "luxory" performance sedan then you'll have associated costs, if you drive it like a normal car then you'll just be changing tyres and wiper blades. YMMV.
