First build, guidance needed please

Those cards do have LED fans, don't they....?

I do a lot of graphics work and have been using the APP version of the ATI drivers for Adobe PS,InDesign, Illustrator etc...if you need an excuse for say a quad crossfire deal :haha:
So I take it that you'll be using the CF quad, in lieu of a Christmas tree.

"Singularity", a different term fot the more commonly used, "Black Hole"...

OR !!!! just a better graphics card singulaly ? if thats a word lol of the same maximum £200 ?
If you put an "R" right here, singula >>R<<ly, it becomes a word. It's like bloody magic, I tell you.

Crossfire is ATI isnt it ? not sure, all i know is my main program is Poser Pro 2010 and all the Poser versions have known issues with ATI and all my previous PC have had Nvidia and i can safetly say i have never had any issues so preferd to stick with what i know.

Poser is more CPU heavy for rendering to be fair hence the CPU upgrade intitially, the RAM helps loads and the graphics card isnt a necessity, i just wanted the best i could aford for the system i am building, so for £60 i will keep the GT 240 and upgrade later in the new year to them GTX 460 ones ;)

ROFL, My wife said yesterday " we don't need a tree with that monstrosity on your desk"
and added it just needs a little green......hmmmm, do you like long walks on the beach....and rainy days by the fireplace Cap?:haha::haha::haha:

Well yes, yes I do. Although I suspect that you're too ugly and the wrong sex, for those things to be enjoyed properly by me. Besides, I have a headache..... :haha:

I just thought Vale was doing what I do frequently, and Shakespeare all over myself.

I am not, you asked that once before...I think it was from my favorite TV shows list LOL

Ok, so the best thing to do here is think about baseball, (or the internet). You have to be careful about concentrating on the internet though. You think about it too hard, and the next thing you know, you're suffering from, "computis interruptus"!

Hey did we figure out the HK thing? and if I owe you a sawbuck?
I think you probably owe me ten bucks. That's about as close as this thread brings us to the truth; https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic150496.html

As i am typing i know your both thinking of something witty to retort ;) but back to the point guys for a second lol

I just been reading my MB manual and there seems to be a very big section on setting the BIOS up ?????

nobody mentioned this so, once my componants are in and working, and my OS is up and running i have to then install the MB disk and some other drivers etc but what will i HAVE to do in the BIOS ?

thats up to you Vale, Bios(s) are all different but probably not much unless you want to overclock and change voltages. You may want to disable PCIE spread spectrum if you want to OC your GPU, and maybe enable load line calibration if you have it as an option. You can also tweak your ram if you are so inclined.Your board may also allow you to update the bios version from the bios as well. You can also choose to set the ram to ganged or unganged mode. You can also set the boot priority as well after you install the OS. A lot of this can be done with software (like the OC'ing) if you are uncomfortable doing it in the bios. The best thing to do is to take your time and walk through the bios one item at a time and make note of any settings you are not quite sure of their function.

*** BTW are you going to set up a RAID array?

I havent got a clue what any of that meant lol, Captain said to put Raid out of my mind ? i dont know what raid is either,

I see there is still loads to ponder over after i have all up and running eh ?

I am a proper noob at PC building so explanations at every step is really appreciated, i am bricking it just building it so settings is a whole different nightmare to tame !

Baby steps and plenty of questions i feel will set me straight from you guys ;)

the short version of all that is that the default settings will most likely get you up and running. You can explore the bios options after that if you decide to overclock and play around a bit. The MB manual will have a semi detailed explanation of what each setting is and what it does. :) I agree with Cap on the raid array. I would not bother with it.

*** BTW are you going to set up a RAID array?
Well, with one HDD he's certainly not.

@ Vale; The award Phoenix BIOS certainly does have a bunch of options, virtually none of which should concern you in the least. This s*** is all plug and play.

The only setting you should check, (and possibly alter), is the mode for running the HDDs. Most boards default to IDE, (out of deference to Win XP), but since you're going to use Win 7, the drive mode should be set to "AHCI". Windows 7 should then install the drivers necessary, again, without intervention from you.

The only other setting you might have to alter, is the boot order. If the Windows DVD isn't recognized by the DVD drive, then you must place the DVD drive first in the boot order. If the Win 7 DVD is recognized, again, you need to do nothing.

Between the optimum defaults, and the automatic detections in the BIOS, this is an easy project. You put the parts in the case CORRECTLY, then turn it on.

You can keep asking questions about advanced procedures if you like, but if you start j***ing o** into all the advanced settings, you're liable to wind up like one of the "experts" at Newegg reviews, RMAing your parts.

No, i dont want to go all advanced at all, i am not capable for starters, know your limits is my rule, i was wondering more about if there is anything i should alter like the "AHCI" thing you mentiond. I would imagine it should work at the box so to speak but if there is a tweek to beneft my system that would be the only avenue i would explore.

Whats this AHCI thing, is it set to this before i put the OS in or is it something i change later ?
