G-sync on 165hz 32" monitor

Hello everybody, I have a 32" 165 Hz dell gaming monitor that you can enable g-sync on. When I do enable g-sync the Hz meter goes up and down in split seconds and the screen has a flicker to it. The monitor runs fine at 165 Hz other wise. Any advice would be welcomed.
