Getting mobo to recognise unformatted WD SATA II hard drive?

I arrived here via One Click Answers seeking info about getting my ECS PT800CE-A MoBo to recognize a new, unformatted WD SATA II 2500WS hard drive (250 GB). Got directed to a thread about same problem with ASUS boards. Being my first visit, don't really know how to get back there after registering. UH...never mind-reopened a tab & found it. Was back in January 2005 with members PRELUDiCON, HoopaJoop, Gunny etc. Maybe some one has figured it all out better by now? Thanks to any help!
