Hard drive not detected in my computer

Hi I have a WD 320GB external hard drive..unfortunately I dropped it from my lap
on a hard surface. Since then its not getting detected in my computer. The device though is detected in USB mass storage on the right bottom corner. I'm afraid perhaps my HDD is gone..I have important data stored in it..Is there any way that i can
get it up & running. Would appreciate ur help.
