Hard drive problem..

Hey, until now ive used a 120GB Maxtor HD until one day i restarted and found it had a problem witch ive forgoten it was a blue screen eror something to do with physical memory dump, so i tryed to format it again from fresh with an xp disc all went well until it restarted so i could finish the install, it then leads me to a black screen were it stays for an uknown time ( i stoped after 4 hours ) So now im stuck with a 20GB but when i made the maxtor slave the pc recognizes it with NTFS and healthy/active but i cant use/save on it does anyone know how i could format it or what the problem is
