i'm installing a windows xp pro but it did not continue to load.........
i have an error says:

***Hardware Malfunction

Call your hardware vendor for support

***System Halted***

I don't know which hardware it point to......
when i install i only have the basic components.

thanx.

You need to check your hardware. Start from the bios looking at the cpu temperature, and work from there. Have you changed any memory timings or other settings recently?

Ensure all of your memory and your CPU are correctly seated, clean the gunk out of heatsinks and fans, apply new thermal grease and ensure that adaptor cards are also firmly seated.

re: thanx for the reply

i think the cpu is not overheating coz it has a temp of 30C/80F
and i didn't change anything on the BIOS setup.........

thanx for ur reply.

my cd rom is ok and everything looks ok for me coz the cpu is not overheating i have been working on this for 2 days now.

my pc is 500Mhz with 128mb ram and a 64 mb video card.
no other cards installed on it.

Have you tested your RAM or HD? Looked for bad caps?

And, yikes, don't put XP on a machine with low specs like that.

Try Windows 2000, or a flavor of Linux..

i have tried to install it a windows 98se but still got the problem......

hope somebody could help me...........

this usually happens on small cd-rom drives specially for laptops. the cd-rom drive can't navigate directories that are 5 or 6 deep in xp cd. clean the cd-rom drive with compressed air, clean the xp cd and re-run. if you can't get it to work, you may have to attach a full size cd-rom drive to do it. you will need one of these:

I would strongly suggest that mharlhouie try alidabiri's suggestions here
