HGST crams 10 TB into helium-filled datacenter hard drive

I think there will always be a place for hard disk drives and optical drives. Millenniata, the company behind M-Disc, wouldn't have launched a disc that can hold data for a thousand years if the need wasn't there. Hell, even tape backup is still in use and I've blank cassette tapes and VHS tapes available as well.

All things for all people.

Drives of cavernous capacity make it easier to have a backup. I have 12 TB in the desktop and will NOT use the Cloud so...nice to be able to buy a drive or two for external backup.
Not having an optical drive (that can read Blu-ray) in my PC is unthinkable, your mileage may vary

I agree 110 percent. I have two Blu-ray burners in each of my boxes along with one DVD-writer. Even though I haven't used them to burn files to Blu-ray discs I have made copies of other discs on DVD. It's better to have them and not them than to need them and not have them; same for copious amounts of local storage (of the HDD type).
