You say that one of your cd drives is faulty, have you removed the ide cable from it?.
If not remove all connections to it and transfer them to the new drive you installed, also check that the jumpers are set to master. Then go into your bios and set all drive detection to auto (usually on the first bios screen).
When you get to boot from your xp cd, go into the repair section and type help for a list of commands.
run fixboot command.

Good Luck

Well to be honest I dont really know what I did when I added the other CD Drive, It was the first time I had done it and i didnt really know what I was doing so im not sure what cables I have moved

Sorry, guys, I just caught up with this thread again.

Liam, instead of selecting Safe Mode have you tried selecting Last Good Configuration?

That is, if you are still alive :D and have not done a full install yet!!!

Liam,

About your CD's ... A little bit of explanation you might find useful:

As I understand it there are two sockets on the motherboard for your drives (CD's and/or HD's). To each socket you can connect upto two drives in a master/slave relationship with one data ribbon-cable. The master device, i.e. one with jumper settings set to master, connects to the end of the ribbon-cable. The slave device, if any, connects to it half way down. So you can connect upto four such devices to your motherboard.

If either of the devices on a ribbon-cable doesn't work because it is faulty I expect the other one won't work either. The system needs both to be working properly. So if one is faulty I suggest doing what Shiney has said - disconnect the faulty one and connect the other one as master to the end of the ribbon-cable.

Also, if you have both a CD and an HD on the same ribbon-cable the HD needs to be the master. Otherwise the HD may not even be detected by your system - and your system won't boot up.

HTH :D
