Hooking up seperate power supply

I have an acer computer with an insufficient power supply to run my video card, so i was wondering how i could setup my power supply as external without removing the one that is already in there and so have my new one supply only the video card (if that is even possible)

Yeh you could do it, but its not a very good solution. You should really just replace the current PSU completely. But to do what you are asking you need to take Pin 14, and short it to one of the ground pins, that will turn the PSU on and keep it on. Then just run the wires to your video card.
