HP / Dell / etc. Laptop password help (April - July 2008)

normally I would say "try search function" :)
you just have to change or delete the service tag. this will clear out the bios config password. then set the service tag back to its original value and thats it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m and whenever I boot it up, I get the white error screen telling me I have a locked hard-drive password. I never set up a password though, does anybody know what password I could use to unlock the hard-drive? The error message says "hard-disk #***********-595B is protected by a password authentication system." I saw on here that someone else had the same problem and someone was able to give him the password he needed. My service tag is
FPL8N61 if that helps!
PastorSmith says Hello for the first time. I am having the same problem. So far no help.I tried calling Dell, but were closed even tho they say 24/7????

2.-a tecnitian toll me that the only way is changin the bios chip for a new one with a new master pass. he ask for 150 us dollars.

which one is the truth or better solution.......help me wiht that!!

I have no idea what you're talking about !

Dell do this for $39 (even if not originally registered to you)
And you are also put on a support contract (because you paid $39) for any future similar issue.

I have posted this over and over.

Dell Support is the absolute cheapest method

Both are true, except the Dell price includes the shipping.
Dell uses an EEPROM Program. It is so small it fits on a bootable floppy drive, or a flash drive boot, or a CD. Nobody else can use it because they have to be EEPROM programmers with special prescience.
Any technician can replace the EEPROM chip if he or she has one. Getting the right chip is the biggest part of the problem. They cost less than $5.00 US once you know which one to get.
Then it takes great skill with a cold solder device to "flat solder" the chip to the board. It takes an investment in equipment in a true technician shop, and it takes time. A good technician makes $85 an hour. He likely earns whatever money he makes.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 that won't boot or do anything ....not even charge the
battery ..& yes I have tested the power adapter which is good.
Where is the most reasonable place to get a good motherboard.
I'm not sure wher RAYBAY was talking about getting them for $119.

Thanks

Can you post a link to the form to be filled, like you did with the "Transfer ownership"?

not sure if I asked you that before but in europe we have to pay dell $20 for a masterpassword no matter if the machine is under warranty or not. makes $39 for to extend warranty plus $20 for the password. can you tell about other regions?
