HP / Dell / etc. Laptop password help (April - July 2008)

I obtained the bios password today with a simple phone call
Dell won't tell you over the phone
Do you mean you called the person who innitially put the password on (ie the person who knew it)

Upon looking thru the bios, I discovered the boot order, or devices, were not locked out.

Well done

I've copied down your found information. So now it's not this pin and that pin, it's:
Short pins 5 & 6
Turn on
Short pins 1 & 2
Then short pins 5 & 6 (again)
Then short pins 1 & 2 (again)
Then do those last two steps over again (not sure howmany times)
Then presto!

@ihateDL
I'll just wait for the PM (the truth is I don't want to email, unless I set up a generic one)
Sorry for the assumption

The above explaination of you looks like that you have to do every step in the list. This is not true. The only short i finally made was te 5+6 + 1 or 2 seconds pause between. as quoted below

The second option is to use the Mod shorter, put the pin point in between pins 5 and 6, turn on the board and then move the point back and forth between the pins with 1-2 second pauses between moves. I have used this 4 times, on a Latitude D600, an Inspiron 2200, an Inspiron 8200 and a C810, so it was no fluke.

I contacted the company whose name came up on the initial boot screen. They were familiar with the machine the M/B came from, so gave me the password, and asked me to delete their company info from the board.
I was suspicious, as I got the board from Utah, and the co name was on the east coast.

What I meant was, if I had plugged in a usb device, I would have gotten the option to boot from it, I just never tried it. I discovered that after I had the password, and changed it. I also added a text line to the bootup screen that says password=admin, so I cant forget it, lol.

Ok so I read that incorrectly
You scraped the pins?
Or you removed the paperclip, then reconnected the paper clip
(I know this sounds silly to spell it out, but I just want to be clear, so as to document it.

Also regarding Password=Admin
Why have a password at all then?
And also I thought that, by shorting these pins, you have also stopped the laptop from holding a password ever again (ie physically hurt the chip) So I read

HP Compaq BIOS - Hash Codes Decrypted

I beg with all my heart for someone to please give me the master password to my HP NX9010 Bios...

My system hash code is: 10338

I've had enough of reading, I can't afford the prices people are asking for the code, I've searched high and low for decryption software and code generators alike but to no avail.

Please, please, please help me...

Where is the software for decryption?

Just a second thought, other than wanting my code! lol.
I am interested to know where this software comes from.
Usually with anything else I've wanted a key/code for in the past I've had no trouble finding it.
But when I look at how old the HP NX9010 is amongst others, and to think that still so few a number of people whom can crack the "system hash codes i'm astonished.

How come this is? where does the software come from? Is it HP software or something someone cooked up at home?

Thought i'd ask, if I don't i'll never get an answer...

System Hash Code = 10338 Anyone???

nahele

Hello TechSpot community, I am really new to this and not quite comfortable with posting for help. I was handed a HP Ominibook 900 with a damaged screen. I rigged a power supply and monitor and it boots fine to a bios password request. The battery charges and it may be worth repairs if a password can be obtained. The build date 11/11/99 with bios ver CJ.M2.28. The bios hash code is 12429 and any assistance will be welcome.
