look for a chip on the motherboard with the number 24 on it and make a short on the chip this will remove any password on the market
Do not short out any eeproms just find the integrated circuit chip with the number 24 on it and make a short on this chip as passwords are not stored in the bios chips !!

2) supervisor/bios password (svp). this requires reading the eeprom chip (8 leg or 14 leg) with an electronic device by using another pc's serial port. (p.m. me on this one).
3) hard drive password (hdp). this is usually tied to svp, but not all the time. it requires special software and a library of known manufacturer's password. but can be cracked either recovering the data or wiping the data.
Dell Latitude LS400 HD1 Master password
I hope someone can help me, I have read through all the forums for info on the subject and have tried everything, but still no joy!
I bought the Dell Latitude LS400 a couple of years ago on ebay without a HD, I then installed a 40gb Seagate HD with XP and everything worked fine untill last week. I rebooted the machine and that's when it failed to reboot, instead giving me the blue screen and asking for the "HD1 Password". After 3 failed attempts it asks for the "HD1 Master Password".
I have never set any passwords and why did it work for so long without asking for this info? I tried Dell and they won't help unless I give them the previous owners details, which I don't have anymore. Will I be able to get the info from this HD if I connect to my main PC through an external casing and how would I get past the Admin password?

If you just want your data from the HD and don't care to take it any further then you can likely just connect the HD to another machine and browse the drive that way assuming it doesn't prompt you for the password.
You can also try running Knoppix which is a Linux based LiveCD. Should be able to copy your files over to another storage device connected to the system using this.

if you get a blue screen it is not the dell internal password protection. this one is usually gray/white screen.
so 3rd party software? if you don't know and nothing about it is shown it will be hard to help you!

I did not set any and I'm pretty sure no-one else did as I installed the new HD and loaded XP. I mainly used this for work and only had Office 2003 and Norton Systemworks on the machine, the main program I used was Outlookmscrx said:

The background is black and the text box requesting the HD1 Password is blue. At this stage I just need to get the .pst file with all my emails.
thats definitively not the dell password protection. so it has to be a 3rd party software and that usually means somebody installed something. anyway give it a try and put this hdd to another computer. if you're lucky you can access it. if not you need to find out which software has the black and blue screen and how to remove it.

Is it not your PC? Why was there a BIOS password that you didn't know and why do you need to bypass any other passwords?
