HP Enterprise let Russia read source code for the Pentagon's cybersecurity systems

..could be so...but then Equifax has a large department dedicated to security and apparently one guy screwed up (bigly).... yah, I know..lousy analogy... I hope.

"The review was conducted by a company called Echelon and on behalf of Russia's Federal Service for Technical and Export Control."

Surely this should have set off a few alarm bells?

"Echelon is a surveillance program (signals intelligence/SIGINT collection and analysis network) operated by the US with the aid of four other signatory nations to the UKUSA Security Agreement[1]—Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, also known as the Five Eyes.

The ECHELON program was created in the late 1960s to monitor the military and diplomatic communications of the Soviet Union and its Eastern Bloc allies during the Cold War, and was formally established in 1971.

By the end of the 20th century, the system referred to as "ECHELON" had allegedly evolved beyond its military and diplomatic origins, to also become "…a global system for the interception of private and commercial communications"." - Wikipedia

You Americans. As an Australian I wouldn't trust you with a shopping list let alone anything that was actually secret! What a pathetic, piss-poor performance.

The software that they shared is called "Open Source". It is licensed as such, so that HP and the condition of accepting it is that it remains open, and includes copyrights and licences must be respected, and anyone could take a copy. of the software and use it.

The USA accepts the software because it is open source and that they may inspect it, analyze it for security leaks and potential flaws, and improve on it. Improvements should be given back to the community.

The Russians also live by the above rules. Linux is an example of such software. Your Android set, TV, and many intelligent appliances were built with Open source.
