Don't buy ... make them bastards sweat and design competitive products, not push shite around just because they are HP ...
poor display and crap battery life? sounds like you are describing a cheap Chinese no name 2 in 1 laptop from banggood which costs 200 bucks only.

With recent intel CPU flaws this laptop is a safer(or faster) option.
For work like software development you don't need great display. Viewing angles are good enough and for text you don't need superb colors.
98% work I perform with a charger plugged in so I don't have a need for a great battery life.
With upgrade of RAM to 16GB of RAM this laptop is a cheap workstation that will do what you need.

I have the ryzen model it has the 39.6 cm (15.6") diagonal FHD IPS micro-edge WLED-backlit multitouch-enabled edge-to-edge glass (1920 x 1080) and I don't find the picture quality that bad tbh
