As expected, one of the most well-received Android phones of the year is making the move to a rival platform. This morning HTC officially announced that the One M8 is getting a Windows Phone twin brother, and the device is set to launch exclusively on Verizon for $99 on-contract.

The new phone has the exact same hardware specs its Android counterpart, including the same 5-inch, 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 chip and camera configuration. It’s also the exact same phone design-wise featuring a curvy metal chassis except for some Windows Phone and Verizon branding.

In terms of  software, the phone runs the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 release, which adds support for folders, more Start screen layout options, a notification tray, and Microsoft's virtual personal assistant Cortana.

In addition, HTC has worked with Microsoft to also bring over some of its homegrown features like BlinkFeed, which aggregates Facebook and Twitter posts along with news, sports and other information; Duo Cam, which lets users refocus images or create 3D perspectives; and Sense TV, which acts as a TV guide and a universal remote. Other features like double-tap-to-wake and support for HTC's Dot View case were ported over as well.

This is HTC’s first major, high-end Windows Phone since the company released the Windows Phone 8X back in late 2012.

$2400 for a 2 year contract for a $600 blower?!!! I personally think that anybody who buys into a contract with no employer/company subsidy just to have a high end phone needs to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

I'm pretty sure the Phone itself is 99$ upfront with a 2 year contract, not 99$ a month for the contract itself. So it would be 99$ + your monthly bill.

You guys need to update since it is coming to At&t http://www.att.com/cellphones/htc/one-m8-windows.html

Oh wow, I'd heard it was going to be Verizon exlusive. If it's going to AT&T that makes me happy. I'll be moving to the US from Europe in a couple months and already have a US Nexus 5 that making me consider only AT&T and T-Mo, but the One M8 Windows Phone had me tempted to go back to Verizon as I'm a pretty big WP fan ever since I had my Lumia 920. Really looking forward to this phone.

You could be right. We work a little differently here to those in the states. If that's the case then things are not as bad as I said.
