I have spent the last 2 weeks researching and talking to my local computer repairshop about my issue. my last step is to find out were i can buy integrated chipsets for a notbook. any suggestions??

i'm looking for an integrated chipset for my sony vaio pcg-k47....i want a reasonably fast card with 256 mb video memory at a reasonably low cost....i tried to talk to ATI and NVIDIA, but they don't sell chipsets to private consumers, only to major manufacturers

Um.. You can't change the chipset on a motherboard. The mobo and the chipset on it are very closely tied together and changing the chipset is plain impossible without redesigning the board. If you already have that laptop then you are stuck with whatever chipset you have in there.

Since you have been talking to ATI and Nvidia then I assume it is the video part you want to change. There are some laptops that allow you to replace the video adapter but I am fairly certain that your Vaio does not.
