I didn't install avg yet (i should've). I'll do it immediately

Uninstall Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_06 .

Update Adobe Reader

You can download it from https://www.techspot.com/downloads/2083-adobe-reader-dc.html
After installing the latest Adobe Reader, uninstall all previous versions.
Note. If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Alternatively, you can uninstall Adobe Reader (33.5 MB), download and install Foxit PDF Reader(3.5MB) from HERE.
It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.
Note: When installing FoxitReader, make sure to UN-check any pre-checked toolbar, or any other garbage.

...and Eset...

I reinstalled avg, uninstalled java 2 runtime environment and I ESET is currently downloading the virus database. I still have to install foxit reader. I'll post the eset log (if there is a log) once the scan is done.

whew, that took longer than I expected.

Restart computer in Safe Mode with Networking and let me know how Firefox behaves there.

Most Eset findings are either in Combofix quarantine folder, or in your restore points, which we'll reset soon.

I am in safe mode with networking right now, and there is no change in firefox. I didn't disable the plugins though.

Hey, I uninstalled firefox 4 and installed firefox 6 and it seems that the browser doesn't freeze anymore! :grinthumb I just hope I haven't spoken too soon. Nevertheless, you're the man broni.

Another question I have is: What do I do about the other programs that the virus blocked? Reinstall?

Good :)

What do I do about the other programs that the virus blocked?
Explain, please.

Meanwhile...

Your computer is clean

1. We need to reset system restore to prevent your computer from being accidentally reinfected by using some old restore point(s). We'll create fresh, clean restore point, using following OTL script:

Run OTL

  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:

Code:
:OTL
:Commands
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[EMPTYFLASH]
[CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
[Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Post resulting log.

2. Now, we'll remove all tools, we used during our cleaning process

Clean up with OTL:

  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

If you still have any tools or logs leftover on your computer you can go ahead and delete those off of your computer now.

3. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

4. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

5. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

6. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

7. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC) weekly.

8. Download and install Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI): https://www.techspot.com/downloads/4898-secunia-personal-software-inspector-psi.html. The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Run it weekly.

9. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

10. (Windows XP only) Run defrag at your convenience.

11. When installing\updating ANY program, make sure you always select "Custom " installation, so you can UN-check any possible "drive-by-install" (foistware), like toolbars etc., which may try to install along with the legitimate program. Do NOT click "Next" button without looking at any given page.

12. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html

13. Please, let me know, how your computer is doing.

i'm posting this from my cellphone. How long does the otl cleanup process take? The status on otl has been: "processing [deleteself]" since my last post.

I couldn't stop otl and I couldn't open task manager either. So I rebooted the pc and I found that all the logs and programs (including OTL) I used were gone. I downloaded the latest version of malwarebtytes antimalware, updated it and did a quick scan. It found only 1 infection. The other programs that were blocked by the virus are winamp and google chrome. When I try to start the programs, I get an error message. Should I try to reinstall these programs?

And lastly, some of the Windows sounds have been disabled (Empty recycle bin, Logon, Shutdown,etc.). The sound files are still there, I tried to apply the sounds to the theme I currently have, but nothing happened. Is there a way to re-enable them? Also, I have a tdsskiller.exe file in my downloads folder that I can't delete. These 2 things are the last of my problems.

The error I get is: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Yes, you can delete TDSSKiller file.

Try to reinstall those two programs.

some of the Windows sounds have been disabled
In this forum, we make sure, your computer is free of malware and your computer is clean :)
Because the access to malware forum is very limited, your best option is to create new topic about your current issue, at Windows section.
You'll get more attention.

I uninstalled winamp and google chrome without any problems. Thank you so much for your help. You've just made my life so much easier. I truly appreciate it :)

Yes!!
