Ibm a31 display problems

Hi, everyone my friend has this ibm A31 laptop and he doesnt get a display on the lcd of the laptop but it does show on an external monitor. He has already replaced the lcd, the inverter board, and the cable. What else could be causing his problems. If it is a video card can it be replaced or would the motherboard have to be replaced?

This Thinkpad has an ATI Radeon 7500 mobile graphics chip, not a video card. Normally, when you have good external video, the motherboard graphics chip is considered good. When using external video, are there any yellow asterisks in the device manager? By changing the inverter, cable and LCD Panel, your friend has spent considerable money on the Thinkpad already. Unless one of these parts is also defective, it almost has to be the motherboard... another big expense
