IDE cables

  1. I have what seems to be a 40 wire ide cable, running from my motherboard to my two cd-rom drives, and a 80 wire one from motherboard to hard drive.

I only use one cd-rom, and want to make a secondary hard drive setup, can I simply switch these cables?

Never mind, I answered my own question :)

Yes, but if you have a hard drive on a cable it really should be an 80 wire one. CD Drives aren't fast enough to need the 80 wire ones, but ATA100/133 hard drives are.

I noticed HUGE slowdown when transferring data between them lol.

I will be getting a new cable, or just getting my new setup soon and not worrying about this lol.

use an 80 wire IDE cable otherwise your speed in data transfer will slow down significantly.
