Intel Core i3-8100 and Core i3-8350K Review: RIP Ryzen 3?

I cant see coffee lake as a success yet when this is a "paper launch", some say we won't be seeing shelf availability even until december/january. So what's the catch on intel's side? Yes they may stop some people from buying Ryzen but at the same time they compete with their own kaby lake/s x270/x299 parts, like shooting on their own foot. For example, what's the point on purchasing a more expensive 7800x/7820x now when the consumer knows they'll be able purchase a coffee lake in a couple of months? Yes I know there's basically a platform difference but now desktop coffee lakes have more cores/threads to make up for the lack of multi-threading performance

I don't think intel is as "future proof" like amd is at this point.
2 years lifespan for your motherboard is not worth the performance gain in my opinion.

Wonder how long intel has been sitting on this technology. Thanks to Ryzen to bring some competition so we can finally see some advances in the technology. If AMD dies we will see just tiny improvements, with increased prices, and an overall lack of innovation. Like we have for so long, it'll just get worse.

8th gen isn't very available. The boards cost way too much as well. This isn't a viable option. Just seems to be a continuation of the PR train wreck Intel have made for themselves by using the same ring bus architecture for a decade without any investment in order to maximise profits at the expense of the consumer.

It'll come back to haunt them. I don't think it will be too long before Arm chips start appearing in laptops and mid range PCs. That A11 apple has is already as powerful, the snapdragon not far behind. Just needs the OS behind it ... and someone will build one. I can see your phone docking to a keyboard, mouse and monitor in 5 years for a desktop experience and firms will lap it up only providing a phone and not a computer to their employees. Mobile has been advancing at break neck speed because of competition. Desktop is in an ice age.

I know Intel wanted to get the 8th Gen out there to combat for mindshare against Ryzen, but I wonder if waiting until the whole line was ready would have been better. This "paper launch" seems to be working against them hard.

That said, the Core i3-8100 is looking like an interesting entry-level pick for gaming. The Core i3-8350K is not terribly appealing at its price point; the Core i5-8400 is a far better value for just $10 more. The lack of budget motherboards is the real problem here, which brings me back to my earlier point: this rushed launch is hurting the 8th Gen CPU's more than it helps.

Interesting that only the slowest Ryzen 8 core is included for comparison .

Interesting too that it is now so obvious that intel were seriously overcharging for their processors for so long

Great review. It would seem now that the Core i3 is 4 cores it's the best value around for gaming.

I know it's Early Access, but how about doing some medium-setting PUBG benchmarks too from now on. 2 million concurrent users make it the most relevant game around right now.

Which combo is more efficient? rx 580 8 gb with ryzen 3 1200 or gtx 1060 6gb with i3 8100 (I’m using a 75hz freesync monitor)

Im a big AMD fan, but Ryzen 3 in its current form is dead. Why would you ? AMD needs the APU version now which with stronger AMD Gfx, is a much different proposition

Right now if I was looking to build a gaming PC I would wait until the Intel budget boards launch in early 2018 and toss a 8400 into it. AMD has nothing that competes with it at that price point for gaming.

Except for the R5 1600 that DIRECTLY competes with it lol. Gaming is just one use case, and every cpu is within 10% of each other. We all know 12 threads and 50% more PCIE lanes will age better than 6 threads.

Are you laughing because you can't read because I am and so is everyone else you read your response.

How so? You claimed "AMD has nothing to compete with the i5 8400 in gaming." It does, and it was out half a year ago - R5 1600.

It trades blows in gaming (Especially when overclocked with its superior included cooler), uses less energy, comes with a cheaper and superior platform, and has the added benefit of winning almost all other benchmarks.

You don't see that as "competing"? LOL I would call that "humiliating".

What is humiliating is your failure to post anything to support your hyperbole even though every professional review site proves you wrong. I have reported your abusive posts, so know that I'm done with this thread, done embarrassing you, and the last words either of us will read in this thread is mine.

The 8400 may be a great CPU but my choice would still be the 1600.

it's only £180 complete with the amazing cooler, unlocked like all Ryzen's and on a socket that you can just drop Zen+ or Zen 2 into later on should you need to.

What's not to like?

Personally I think this article are kinda wrong. For me I have a choice amd 1600 or i3 8100.Amd with better mobo and better memory are 1.5k cheaper. Not even comparing ryzen 3 as that would be way cheaper.

Another thing would be that eventually they will make/figure out to program games to use more than 4 cores and thus the amd would be a strong contender.Until then intel will dominate.Price to performance amd's still king.

How are you conducting these test? Same systems with different CPU.. Everything cleaned Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. I was just wondering what the results would be with just a clean image. Power flow no loss. Just wondering the test bed you using.. Your results varies though. i3 seems to be the choice here I have one used it with STO and have no issues even using just 8 GB of RAM DDR3. My other system GPU is max and RAM is shared Texture is Extreme. DDR3 1600 XP. Results of all the CPUs is great to know but how are you testing though? Frag mention can slow down these test you know.
