Intel's latest ad campaign mocks M1-powered MacBooks

Apple supports their hardware - letting you repair it yourself (Or through a 3rd party) is the opposite of support! THEY repair it for you!
I am going to print this comment and hang it on my wall. Your comment is golden and can lighten me up in bad times. I'm sure my friends would also have a nice laugh when they are here. Thanks!

it has everything to do with support but you are just trying to defend Apple because that's what apple fanboys do. what apple is doing is plain and simple egregious and you are supporting their scam. you are sending them your well earned money and saying: "please daddy, slap me more".

I've gotten two major Android updates and monthly updates for my android phone. you can't say you don't get software support. in general you get around 3 years of major updates and longer for security patches.

as for repairs I've used the warranty and I've also bought screens and batteries and made the repairs myself. you can't even buy apple parts and even if you use original parts Apple software blocks them.

you can swap screens from 2 new apple phones and both won't work. the same with batteries, cameras and other major components (apple is actively blocking repairs in the OS). apple is even sending legal threats if you show a schematic of a phone even though these are a requirement for repairs.

tl;dr: you are happily defending a scam. fanboyism at its finest.
I'm defending nothing.... simply stating facts... SUPPORT has nothing to do with the "right to repair".... they are completely different issues.

And wahoo... you get around 3 years of major updates on your Android... Apple gives 5.... and longer for security patches as well...

I understand that you'd like to spend less to get your phone repaired... no one is defending the cost of an iphone here... but for the last time, it has nothing to do with SUPPORT!

I'm glad you find it amusing... but it's simply the truth... perhaps read a dictionary?

it has everything to do with it. that's the truth that everybody knows. it's not a separate issue.

"no one is defending" - yes you are. people are making fun of your statements here, that's how ridiculous they are.

You are defending a company that is actively blocking repairs with original parts in the software. You are enabling this scummy behaviour. (but I guess even this is part of the "software" support that you think is "amazing")

I am NOT defending it... I’m stating it is a SEPARATE ISSUE!!

SUPPORT means supporting your product - not allowing other people to fix it...

Apple supports their hardware as long or longer than pretty much any other hardware company... you want to provide evidence to the contrary?

They better, as for a decade+ they sold outdated equipment[1-3 years behind ] that performed sub par at a premium price , no thanks.

I still don't understand why you are defending Apple so hard on this issue. You have some of the most backwards arguments I've ever seen. Next thing you'll tell is that repairing is wrong and only Apple should be allowed to do it to make sure the "repairs" are "perfect".

They are clearly failing to support their products and even worse they are intentionally lowering the support by removing the ability to repair the products.

If you cannot repair a broken screen or a battery then it's essentially a product destined to be replaced. 5 years of software support? your battery will long be dead or close to dead before that happens. And Apple made sure you can't replace it.

Do you like these prices? https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service/screen-replacement

this is the crap you are defending:

I wish you’d take the trouble to READ what I’m posting. I’m NOT defending Apple’s stance on the right to repair - it has no relevance to my argument!

I am simply arguing about Apple supporting their devices longer than most (if not all) of the other companies out there. For the last time, SUPPORT is different than right to repair!

And I’m defending NOTHING! Please read :)

Your first mistake: it is relevant.

The only reason you are denying this is because it doesn't fit in your argument where apple has "better" support. Your entire argument falls apart by denying the hardware support and saying that only software matters.

TL;DR consciously or not you are defending apple on a scummy practice.

Whoop-de-do, apple has 1 or 2 more years of updates for hardware that is meant to be replaced after 3 years (the battery is pretty much dead by then). Have you seen the video I posted where the repairs are almost the same cost as a new system? Such support, much support.

No, my first mistake was arguing with you when you won’t bother reading.... Right to repair is NOT support!! They are 2 different issues!!

I agree with you about the cost and repair... Apple could (and should) do better!

I’m NOT defending Apple - I’m no fanboy!

But when it comes down to SUPPORT - and ONLY support - Apple DOES support their products better than just about any other company.

Too bad for you that things aren't so simple. All you have are PR comments that do not work in the real world. Defending Apple by denying reality...

"Apple could do better" - no dude, Apple is intentionally going backwards. They are making huge profits over these repairs. They are literally trying to control your device from the moment you buy it to the moment it dies. You can't do anything to it without their approval in between (this is where the "software" support also comes into play in their scam scheme).

How is blocking your camera or display in software better "support"? Your continued focus on just software is baffling when talking about a physical device that has a lifespan shorter than 3 years (by Apple's own statement about iPhone's standard lifespan).

No... it isn't that simple... but what I am debating IS!

I'm ONLY debating the issue of Apple Support... which is clearly superior to most companies. The cost of repairs, treatment of customers, quality of device, etc are all SEPARATE ISSUES. I'm not arguing those!
