If you end up getting a card that can easily run RT, you'll end up eating those words! Being able to walk around Night City and see reflections in cars, puddles, and windows is awesome, and RT makes light rays and everything else look fantastic, it just adds immense immersion to the experience, I love it.
But yeah, that being said, it really does tank performance to the point some games are a mess sometimes, so I do have to agree with you somewhat.
My 7900XTX does pretty well with RT, there are only a handful of games with RT that make it stutter or degrade enough to annoy me when it's maxed out.
