Steve, you do great work, but I don't know how I feel about you making current $300+ GPUs the floor for your benchmarks, especially at a time when upgrading isn't so easy. I'm sure there are tons of people on RTX 2000/3000/4000 and RX 6000/7000 cards weaker than the RTX 5060 that would like to know how their GPUs perform in this remaster.
I just came here to say the “morning” path trace and ray trace benchmark comment about how the darker one looks better because it’s morning is very wrong. Path tracing one looks way better. Please go outside more often. Thanks.
For me, realistic is not always better, especially in gaming. I want just enough detail to trigger believable immersion in my brain, which for me is far short of photo-realistic; and I don't want anything that obscures or hinders game play, or leaves me squinting to see details in the dark. Please go outside more often.
I'm thinking YOU need to go outside more often. Mom is always right!I just came here to say the “morning” path trace and ray trace benchmark comment about how the darker one looks better because it’s morning is very wrong. Path tracing one looks way better. Please go outside more often. Thanks.
Wait you paid 2k for a card with only 16GB of VRAM. 'More money than sense' comes to mind.5080 is such a disappointment yet again. I tried running this game and its lagging like hell. There goes 2000 bucks I guess. Sorry but 30 fps + frame gen is a total lagfest of a disaster. Indiana Jones and 007 run FAR better too, with Path tracing mind you. Oh and Resident Evil R too. I can prove it, nothing hard about that.
Thanks for the awesome comparison btw! I don't like how the new light looks too. I agree with the video. The sunset/sun rise is also super boring now. Fun fact, The Witcher 3 has some of the most insanely looking skyboxes. This so called "remaster" totally ruins it. This is a huge sin for me. I also happen to like the darker tones of the old game. Everything is too bright in the new one. In the old one, you go to a dark forest. Scary, spooky and epic. The new 1? Its like there are 500 projectors aimed at that same forest. Nuff said, I hate it. Biggest fail of a remaster ever, and I also include Warcraft 3 in here. Which actually just redeemed itself.
Cyberpunk 2077 is impossible to play without patch tracing. I even get very playable fps there. Witcher 3? Nah. Looks bad and the fps is horrible. Same PC. Same card. Even if you ignore my opinion on the light. FPS data don't die. A game from 2015 runs horrible. A game from 2020(when did Cyberpunk came out?) runs with all the bells and whistles. I had to lower a lot of settings in the Witcher 3... remaster.... Whats the point in remastering it then? If I remove all the settings to make it smooth? There is quite a few hitches in some spots too. Gen 5 SSD, 7800X3D. Should be perfect, its not. Going to 4.0 = 0 lag.
So yea, if they didnt add gameplay changes, id never play on this new version.
Why just test ultra settings, you cannot tell any difference by just dropping back to high, visually unless you pixel peep. I only choose ultra on games with potato engines that can run 4K Ultra at high fps without upscaling.
Witcher 3 with high settings, 4K (FSR quality upscaling) is a nice balance.
Also RT Ultra is barely any improvement over RT High.
If it looks washed out and blurry then it is on your end and you need to fix your pos rig, cuz it looks phenomenal on my OLED and 5080 w/ 100% maxed everything from Hairworks to Path Tracing.Loaded it this morning expecting to see awesome updated graphics...but was very anti-climactic. All settings at max on my RTX 5070ti & 13700kf...but the game looks washed out and blurry? I tried turning off all the post-processing effects (chormatic aberration, blur etc), but it still looks washed out and blurry. What's up w/ that?
I would argue ss well that the eye candy lokks like vaseline as well.Just shows that, you just play the f-king original version and be happy.
F-k all this tracing nonsense and punishing your own graphics card for useless eye-candy.
