Laptop screen

Hi guys, I have a problem with my laptop but I'm not sure what's even wrong with it. The screen is responsive to the computer but the images consist of colored lines. There are times when the screen appears to work properly and i see everything clear and normal, but they are short-lived. Very recently, there were a lot of viruses on my computer, which was around the time i started having screen problems. But I wiped the hard drive clean and performed a fresh install of windows XP. My screen has not recovered. Can anyone please help me to at least identify the problem, whether it be the BIOS, video card, the screen itself, etc?

I ask this all the time, so why stop now. What is your laptops make and model numbers? Shouldn't this be posted in "Mobile Computing"? Laptops do not have video cards as a general rule. it does sound like a failing LCD display

This does indeed sound like a failing LCD display as Tmagic stated, or possibly wear and tare damage to the wire or FPC that connects from the mainboard to the LCD itself.

A laptop specialist will be able to pin down the cause and may be able to find a replacement wire/FPC if that is the fault. If it is the LCD failing a replacement can be quite costly I'm afraid.
