Linus must be making quite the profit from some AI companies to be saying this,
it's sad to see that even Linux isn't safe from AI ensh#$ification.
Also forking Linux even further fragmenting it into versions that might have less or no AI crapware won't help adoption of Linux at all.

All these pro-AI folks completely avoid the most important reason why people hate AI. They hate it because they can see where it will lead, and they can see the societal and environmental damage it has already caused and which is only going to get far worse. Almost nothing AI provides helps the common man and it never will. In fact, it is patently obvious that the common man will be shafted by AI at every opportunity; this has already happened repeatedly. But the bro's just ignore all of that because most of them are driven by nothing but greed or in the case of a few like Linus Torvald they can't see beyond technological benefits.

No, the most common reason people here hate AI is because they think the 2 second google search summary is the peak of AI, and that AI is incompetent. The word for this is ignorance, you do not hate AI because you are so smart and well informed that you know or see something that others do not, you hate it because you do not understand what it is, or what it can do.

Thanks for telling me what I do or do not understand. Firstly, I'm very well aware of what 'AI' is. I understand LLMs very well indeed thanks. I'm a developer and spent many years using languages like R to do what we used to call predictive modelling which leaned heavily on LLMs to do it's work. They absolutely have their place - they are fantastic at pattern recognition so do a great job at things like developing vaccines, folding proteins, predicting trends, writing and reviewing code (to a degree) and image manipulation etc etc. Using that same technology as an AI is a joke however. It's a parlour trick where the model has so much data that it can find a match that seems to mimic real behaviour under nearly all circumstances. But it's dumb as a rock and has no self-awareness, common sense, or real understand of what it's being asked. I hate it being used in this way as it's such an inefficient mechanism that will never really work properly. It's such a barn-door-engineered way of faking intelligence. Hence the models take weeks to fully train and queries burn through energy require vast amounts of RAM to run in any sensible speed and are generally not at all reliable.
