Metro games get review bombed following Epic Store exclusivity announcement

From user Dlc5isreal3 on Reddit which pretty much sums up Epic and why this is bad:

"-It has terrible security. People get hacked all the time.
-Awful customer service.
-Games are more expensive due to Epics regional pricing.
-Epic makes you pay a transaction fee before purchasing a game.
-You cant play games offline.
-No social features like chat.
-No controller support.
-There is no achievements.
-No cloud saves
-No game formus
-They pay for exclusive rights to force you to use their store which isnt good for consumers.
-They refuse refunds even if you meet criteria.
-No user reviews
-No linux support.
-They are partially owned by Tencent (a company that sells user data to the Chinese government)

Oh also Epic's TOS gives them the right to monetize or use any piece of media involving any game on the Epic store. Meaning they can steal monetization of any let's play, download your clips/screenshots and use them for advertising, or decide to start selling the mods you made for any game on their store, without even having to credit you."

I have bought and played the first two games. I know my opinion is unpopular but I don't mind installing another launcher to play the game. You don't have to keep the launcher running. Just open the launcher when you need to play and then close it when finished. Also this highlights the problem with steam reviews and review bombing. There is a filter that is there for filtering out reviews though. If developers get a higher share of the profit then I am all for it.

I am sure that the Epic Store will get better over time as well

You should probably do your own research, as this point in the list is complete bullshit (implying that more than one will be). The Epic launcher most definitely has chat between friends (and has for a long time).

I don't like this move, but I'm not going to push misinformation about it because it sounds like it conveniently supports my viewpoint.

It's not just about that, PC gamers just don't like the term "exclusive". I don't know how much money they got from moving to Epic, but having the option to buy it on Steam (even though it might be 5-10$ more expensive) than from another less know and unproven platform would have been much much better.

We're one step away from these stores starting to force people to pay for online play like on consoles which I find to be very VERY concerning.

"Give them a finger and they'll take your arm"

A lot of Steam users are entitled d*cks. What does it really matter? COD moved to Blizzard without much complaints and so far apart from not having my friends list there, the move has been a brilliant thing, for performance, fewer cheaters etc.

Metro going to Epic shouldn't matter either.
Agree with the first sentence, but they also do have a point that people are missing.
The game was already being sold (pre-order) on Steam for a long time. And then without more than a days warning the listing was removed a few weeks before it was to launch? That is also a d*ck move.

I do like the idea of competing with Steam's 30% take, but the move was more anti-consumer than it should've been. And us gamers are tired dealing with stupid exclusive deals and half a dozen launchers to juggle around.

At least with Steam I can add shortcuts to non-steam games lol

ok that is a good point, I also had it on my wishlist and I get what others say about Blizzard providing a better service than Epic at the moment but still for a game that will be SP only at least initially it really doesn't matter

I wonder if Valve will try to destroy Deep Silver now to make an example of what happens when you whistle against the wind....
Lets say, Valve would remove all Deep Silver games, moreover, would remove all EPIC games from Steam... See how their sales figures would decrease....

They kinda deserve to be review bombed after selling pre-orders on steam then forcing people to switch at the last minute

They already give a good incentive to buy it from Epic's store by being cheaper and this also means that the devs won't gain much from the lower fees. Signing an exclusivity deal is the perfect way to piss off PC gamers that like freedom of choice. They are effectively destroying their sales numbers and reputation just to get a quick infusion of cash.

The PC is not a console.
I assume you get a full refund without problems on steam if you are not willing to move to Epic's platform.

If steam is truly charging 25-30 percent cut from the developers and the competition is offering 12 percent, I can't blame them at all. Maybe Steam should realize its not 2006 anymore and there's plenty of capable competition now. 25-30 percent is mental for AAA games.

I am sorry but I don't see any capable competitor here... just try hards...

I think everyone is forgetting STEAM and Valve aren't a PLC, while EPIC is. Valve got rich the best way, didn't need the stock market to create it's wealth. The only reason EPIC can afford to charge so little is because they're worth 5-8B due to Fortnite's success even though Fortnite hasn't made Epic Games that much money.

Granted, the comparison between percentages is dramatic. But you have to look at what Steam offers compared to Epic as well. Steam has been a juggernaut in digital delivery platforms, and the number of additional features it offers, the sheer overhead costs of hosting such a massive gaming content library for a huge number of users, continued improvement and development costs, etc. There's a reason they charge as much as they do. But, of course, everybody just looks at the slick new guy with a shiny store that has a fraction of the features offering bargain basement pricing for developers, and things like logistics considerations go out the window.

Could Steam charge less now, though? I'd think so, particularly if they want to stay competitive and don't put a lot into developing more features to appeal to users. They've got lots of momentum, they could drop their prices and coast for a long while, and still be able to offer the largest distribution platform for developers. How will they respond? Grab the popcorn and wait for the show to start. We live in interesting times :)

Steam sucks, need to update their storefront and navigation. Good move on their part by going to epic...
