Hi.Could someone tell me what cheap motherboard I could obtain with which I could install win98\winxp.I have two hard drives so would like to setup win98 on one and winxp on the other (they are both sata drives). My present motherboard with P5GD1-vm is not compatible with win98.Thank you.

Question

What do you consider cheap? What processor do you have? I bought an ASUS P4V8X-MX for my mom's machine for about $55. It's a socket 478. I think all you need is a mobo whose BIOS has the option to answer yes/no to "PnP aware OS?" However, you may have to change that setting before you boot each time, depending on which OS you want to boot in.

Though I think I'm correct, some of the guys that know stuff will show up and correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Thanks so far for your help.My cpu is a p4 540 3.2ghz (800FSB) 1M LGA775.Hope this helps.

maybe

Might look at this one- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130535

I prefer ASUS, but the one I found had an SiS chipset, which I have heard not-so-good things about. MicroStar (MSI) has an excellent reputation, and the Intel chipset is the same one I have on my system. My first board was an MSI (OEM), and it was excellent.

You can see the mfr's description here- http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=667
They say it has a PnP BIOS feature, which leads me to believe it might serve your purposes. Good luck! :)
