Hi, Had to wipe my hard drive and reload XP. During that process, somehow ended up with multplie lnstances of XP, so now upon powerup, or restart, boot up stops at a black screen asking to specify which operating system. Both ater listed as Windows XP, only the first option works (the new instance) the second option, locks the system. Is there any way to remove this so I can cleanly boot up??

Easy as pie what you need to do is goto run type in msconfig once that loads up click on the BOOT.INI tab then click on the check all boot paths if it finds one delete it, and reboot to see if it removed the reference to the nonexistent os.

you can do what was just said about the .ini inside of msconfig, or you can right click on "my computer" then go to "properties" then go to "startup and recovery" then you'll see "system startup" in the two checked boxes, uncheck the " time to display...." boxes. then click ok...and that should do it.
