Over the years, I recall at least one , perhaps two, different threads in the the past that talked about "must have" freeware apps that people have recommended. But I've searched the forums but couldn't the threads

Anyone remember these threads? Could post a link to the threads? Any help appreciated.

Thanks all :)

There is this, it is comments on a TS article about it. From 2009 though, so certainly some recommendations will be different now. Suppose this is as good of a place as any to start a new thread on it.

Irfanview - Image viewer and simple editor, resizer, batch renamer.
Imgburn - CD/DVD/Bluray burner, can burn almost anything.
Google Earth - Almost everyone knows what this is.
Foxit Reader - PDF viewer, although I hear Acrobat Reader is much lighter/nicer than it used to be.
Audacity - Audio mixer/editor comparable to Adobe Audition.
Handbrake - Converts video to h.264 format, making for easy playback on iDevices. Also useful for shrinking large video formats like mpeg2. Old versions will convert to xvid/divx, but new ones do not.
