Hello I wants to resolve a 2 months old problem on my pc.
The problem is that PS2 keyboard and Mouse stops responding
(40 to 50 minutes) after starting windows. While all other programs and songs
works continuesly.
But when I types Alt+Ctrl+Delete after 1 minute then
again keyboard and mouse works well but for just 20 to 25 minuts, it hangs again.
Please tells me what I should do..
I already have done these things to solve this problem but without success.
1. Format C and install winxp sp2,
2. Remove every PC components and then replace after cleaning.
3. Installed and checked for Viruses Kaspersky 2008 Updated, BitDefender v10 updated.

But another important thing that is: by checking drive c from cmd it
shows that there is a 16kb in bad sectors.
Then I set the parameters on cmd chkdsk /r to shedule on restart.
After restarting it checked disk for recovery. On 75% completion it stops for a huge time..
I need tech supporters to resolve this problem. Thanks

System Specs:
Computer Age: 2.5 years.
Computer Location: Home PC
ASUS Intel 865 Chipset motherboard with onboard 64mb graphics.
Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz.
80gb IDE Seagate Harddisk.
384MB Ram 256+128 DDR.

I will replace this pc with an new one, after 2 months.
This time I just using it for my exams for 2 months. MS word + Internet+documentations+Printing.

If the Hard Drive is faulty 16Kb !!
Then it is possible that you may receive lockups, as the system writes to an area on the hard drive that may be destined to be bad (ie not yet marked)

I would suggest you go to your Hard Drives manufactures page, and download the Hard Drive Disk check utility (usually made available for people returning Hard Drives under warranty)

Once this test is complete, you may also want to run a memtest (assuming hard drive comes up Ok)

Kimsland has a point about the bad sectors but only if they are changing upwards every time you run scandisk. Some drives will run with stable bad sectors for ever.

Thanks for reply.
I have once again reformat drive c 2 times (not quick format) through winxp cd.
It removed the bad sector. Also checked with Seatools (Seagate) Hard Drive diagnostic after burn cd and found no errors..
I think its a hardware problem...It could be physically damage on the MB while all the fans are at the full speed and room temperature is 1-4 degree c.
The problem is the always exists while I run any programs, I also lost my important work when keyboard and mouse stops respond on the middle of the work.
It also happens in just time when I was typing my problem on techspot. I restarted computer and typing again..

You must check the event viewer for what is happening last.

Also right click my computer - Properties - Advanced tab - Startup and recovery "Settings" button
De-select automatically restart
Apply
OK
And be quick about it !

Ok.. In the event viewer nothing happens as warnings but an error:
-------------
Event # 7001
The Telnet service depends on the NT LM Security Support Provider service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
-------------
My computer does not automatically restarts until I push restart button on the pc. It is because keyboard and mouse hangs.

These services (Start -> Run -> Services.msc) can be safely disabled
Unless you need this remote support

NT LM Security Support Provider
you need this service if you are running Message Queuing or Telnet server.

Telnet
Enables a remote user to log on to this computer and run programs, and supports various TCP/IP Telnet clients, including UNIX-based and Windows-based computers

ie just disable Telnet

I can't see this causing the issue though.

I wonder if this actually a faulty mouse, or more a faulty keyboard

2 months ago I am using this keyboard just after my old microsoft wireless
PS2/usb2 keyboard became faulty.
----

Have you removed the old microsoft wireless PS2/usb2 keyboard, software ?

The keyboard/mouse issue (if it is this) will not show up in the settings, I'm thinking it is possible a intermittant hardware fault causing it (bad internal contacts?)

Check add/remove first (for the wireless package)
Then if removal of that doesn't help (or if it is removed already) Try another keyboard/mouse

Ok I will now buy new usb only keyboard and mouse.
It seems that ps2 keyboard/mouse ports are not well on working.
In past I also replaced 3 ps2 keyboards(one wireless,2simple) which were became faulty (not mouse).( I always preferred ps2 ports)
Ok. I will call again on the same thread if the problem not solved by using usb keyboard/mouse. thanks..

Ok

But while we're on the subject of preference (not to do with your possible issue)
I normally prefer:
PS2 Keyboard
USB Optical mouse

The reason why is:
All bios on computers always see PS2 (as long as a PS2 connector exists)
It's easier to unplug a mouse, when I need it on another computer !
And most new mouse (mice?) are USB

Continue with USB for both (as a test ! )

Now I have installed:
PS2 keyboard (already)
USB Sony Optical Mouse (new) after removing old ps2 mouse.
It solved the problem. Now I can write and use my work every time/.
Thanks a lot to you. I have learnt many things.
Thanks kimsland

Hello I wants to resolve a 2 months old problem on my pc

Are you saying the mouse did it.

Please test over a few days, to really confirm.

Make sure to defrag too
You may want to run CCleaner first (to remove temporary stuff on your computer)

No need to reply, unless you have more issues on this.

Yes new usb mouse working like extreme, make something like my pc performs fast.
I am already using advanced windows care pro2 and Uniblue SpeedupmyPC (from the past).
