No audio device

  1. upgraded sound driver for soundmax integrated digital to vinyl ac97 audio, didnt like so uninstalled and re-installed soundmax but no audio device indicated, also says driver enabled but has not been started., checked service components, shows running. Plug and play enumerator listed on system. rolled back driver. no
    such luck. any ideas

    What are your computers complete specs?

    Been out of town, just saw message. Gateway E-2000, Intel motherboard, D845GRG AAA86577-302,, bus clock, 100 megahertz - 2 gigahertz pentium 4. Got this off Belarc. Running XP home edition service pack 2. Truth is I know very little about this stuff. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    When you get a chance, try installing a PCI sound card

    I'll give it a shot but if the existing card is a part of the motherboard, I'm not certain
    how to disable it.
