No idea what is wrong with this PC

hi there
here is the thing ... i was asked if i can fix a PC.

what the PC shows so far: a white screen with some black lines moving diagonally.... since there was no sound from the bios i decided to change the batery(PC is quiet old).. batery changed (long beep 2 short)(AWARD)- VGA problem ...
managed to find a VGA card .... no picture no nothing no sound either ... swaped back to the original- no beep (this time) same problem -white screen, lines running across.... pressed the DEL button -everithing went PINK

where could the problem be
BIOS : AGP slot : memory ( swaped it around nothing) : have not tried diferent HDD

specs : PII ( like i said PC quiet OLD)
256 + 32 MB SDRAM
15,3 GB hdd
riva TNT

any ideas would be apreciated

remove the HDD and boot does screen come up with bios boot info
if so press delete key go to bios disable video shadowing if it is in there
if you can get to bios maybe bios upgrade time if not check memory sticks could be bad memory
have you tried a diff monitor
I'm think'n time for new board
