Nvidia moves RTX 3070 launch to October 29

Preferably they would let AIBs know before the cards hit the store but it certainly has happened before in the graphics card market and it happens every time AMD releases a new CPUs that's supported on older motherboards only through a BIOS update.
No. The OP was asking if it was feasible to have retailers update the bios on shrinkwrapped cards already on their shelves. This does not happen. What you are referring to is AMD alerting motherboard manufacturers, so they may make a bios update available for users to download, or to update inventory they've not yet shipped -- a far different matter. More to the OP's original point, that is equally feasible as an approach for NVidia to rectify cards already in end-users hands.

Correct, this is what I was saying. That said, while the big etailers don't update BIOS at store many smaller stores and Microcenter can and do update BIOS.

This is a joke! With the current production pipeline that can't deliver anything close to market demand, they are giving themselves 2 more weeks to be prepared... HA!
I was a sure 3080 purchaser before I saw how nVidia taking a greedy dump on its fans. It seems like they are selling all their stock to scalpers... (yea, bots... ok, whatever) and leave us gamers with nothing... I guess my money goes to AMD this gen. Their offerings seem very promising. Maybe it won't be as good in ray tracing, but at least I won't need an air-conditioner for my computer.
u mad bro, u don't like capitalism go ask china to buy u a 3080 with their $3 a hour paycheck

I would be extraordinarily surprised to find Microcenter opening shrinkwrapped boxes to update the bios of new items. Do you have a source to confirm this? In any case, they're such a small fraction of the overall market that it doesn't change the argument. NVidia cannot more easily correct outstanding problems with cards while those cards are sitting in boxes on vendors shelves, rather than in user's machines, not without issuing a general recall, that is.

" Micro Center has proactively updated select X470 and B450 chipset motherboards to have available to our customers with the release of these new CPUs - these boards which have gone through this process will be designated with a sticker on the box indicating Ryzen 3000 Series Compatible. Check with your Micro Center Sales Associate or Knowledge Expert before leaving the store to understand the status of the board you are selecting, whether the BIOS has been or will need to be updated, and what next steps will be necessary. "

They also provide the service in store should you need it.

I've seen those BIOS updated stickers outside of Microcenter as well. I've ordered motherboards off Newegg and Amazon that had them so manufacturers must be doing some updates stateside and then slapping those stickers on them.

Thanks! I'm surprised ... but since Micro Center has in-store service centers, perhaps I shouldn't be.

It's probably more efficient for them to do in large batches. If someone needs an older BIOS because the newer one doesn't support their CPU (a few AMD motherboards drop support for older gen CPUs) they can do that at Micro-center as well.

It would be even better though if all motherboards were able to update without a CPU installed and the processes was made easier. A lot of inexperienced PC builders are unsure of which bios to update to and how to update. Many motherboards that do support updating with no CPU do so through a FAT formatted USB stick, which isn't something you'd know unless you read the manual.

The power draw of these new cards is insane. When you compare it to pascal cards such as the 1070 which had a power draw of 150w. It just seems to be that maybe Samsung's 8nm node isn't that good for thermals and power efficiency.

It's reputedly not as good as TSMC's N7+. But the largest factor in the power draw differential between the two cards is simply die size: the 1070 weighed in at 300-odd mm^2, whereas the 3080 is twice that.

Really? As if additional 2w will solve production and delivery problems (so same for 3080, right?)... and WHAT a COINCIDENCE that it’s the next day after AMD annouces RNDA2....
When the "production problem" is fake and made on purpose, it's easy to change directions and have enough stock ready in a very short time...

Moore's Law is Dead from YouTube put it all in a video regarding the 3080 launch, he accurately predicted the shortage of cards in order to raise prices in the market so nVidia AIBs won't lose money for every card sold...
