My Outlook crashed and I could not access my inbox. A message popped up and told me to go to my toolbox(what ever that is) and restore it. I clicked help and then Detect and Repair. The only path that worked wasto create a new inbox. It works now but I have lost all of my old emails and my contacts. Can I fix this somehow?

Search for PST and PBA and copy those to a USB jump drive or another location.

When last did you patch the Office 2000 with a service pack?
You might have a issue with the PST file size being to large.
If you go under the control panel there is icon called MAIL click
Once you click on MAIL icon then click on DATA
You should see under settings the words Compact, click on that and it will reduce the size of your PST.

This might help you recover and access Outlook again. If not and you did try to repair the Office, then you need to uninstall Office - reboot system then re-install Office once again. Your settings should be still active under Outlook.
