Open up the properties of the shortcut and see where it points to. If the location is on your hard drive (that you probably formatted), then the original data is gone for good.

We have no way of knowing where you put your video, how you have arranged the data on your LaCie or whether you even know the difference between shortcuts and files.

Open the properties of this shortcut and see where the target file is expected to be. Then make an educated guess, whether the target file could exist somewhere or not. It could be that the original location was deleted and overwritten. It could be that the target location has simply been moved or renamed. It could be that the shortcut is completely irrelevant and your target file is in another location on your hard drive. It could be that this movie never existed in the first place and this shortcut is a Trojan installer waiting for a chance to install some porn advertising program on your computer.
