I'm gonna buy a UPS soon, and I have a question about hooking it up. I am currently using a Belkin surge protector that sits under my monitor. I am fond of it because it has individual power switches for the computer, monitor, and two auxiliary outlets. It also has an in/out phone line protector.

The UPS I want has braodband protection as well as system protection, so my question is this: If I plug the power cord from my surge protector into the UPS, will the UPS still afford me the necessary protection even though the individual items are not directly connected to it?

Thanks-

I found this quote from here - http://arstechnica.com/guides/other/ups.ars/3

"But remember this: don't plug power strips into your UPS.You'll kill it."

I think that refers to the raw power consumption. It`s not quite what your referring to,but I need the posts.
Update :This is a bit more relevant -

"I always connect my printers in one of the non battery backed plug ins that most every UPS has available. That way it doesn't use the battery or cause the UPS to reset while still giving good spike protection to the printer."

From here - http://www.computerhaven.info/forum/tm.aspx?m=24016&mpage=2&key=&#24135

Yeah-

Thanks, Peddant. Read that article at your link, and a couple other things- looks like I'll just have to sacrifice some convenience for the sake of protection.

Thanks again- :) :)
