Ram problems with the emachine t1100. help!!!

ok guys, i need help, i'm having problems upgrading my emachine t1100, yeah piece of junk i know, from a single 256 mb chip to 512 ( 2 256 mb chips) all kingston pc133 ( kvr133q/256r 168 pin dimm). In the system set up it register the 512 mb but when i go into win xp it beeps and reboots into the screen where it asks you to boot in safe mode, last know working setting and what not ( not sure what this screen is called) On the emachine site it says it can go up to 512 mb and on the kingston site the on ly recommendation that it gives is switch the dimms around. Which I did and I still cant get anywhere. I tried booting up on each seperate 256 dimm and they both work seperately but not together. PLease up....trying to play Guid Wars

Depending on the number of memory slots, try combinations of 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-3 or 2-4.
If you have only 2 slots, does it boot from slot 2 by itself?
If not, try to blow any dust out from that slot, using a can of compressed air, do NOT use a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner!
