Restore in Win98

I used my Win98 Startup disk and at an A: prompt typed scanreg /restore and it gave me a CDR101 error.

I used my WinME Startup disk and did the same thing and it worked.

I used both with CD support and my CD ROM is working fine.

Why ME and not the 98 disk? What file is used to run scanreg?

Follow up

It will work if you, from a: prompt go to c:\windows\command directory and run the command from there.


However, I would still like to know why one Startup disk works and the other doesn't.

I would like to add the file(s) to the Startup disk that doesn't work now.

Also, I would like to pass this on to my friends that don't know enough to be changing dir in DOS.

win startup

windows hangs after the 98 logos. I get a black screen and hour glass. HAve tried everything to find out why but have not come up with anything. Please help:dead:

Sounds like a driver issue. Try going starting in safe mode (hit F8 key during boot), then restart after windows loads. If you still have problems then you'll need to look at disabling your drivers (most recent first) until your problem is fixed.
