Cutting corners: Zoom, Teams, and other videoconferencing solutions have rapidly evolved out of necessity over the last several years, helping to make web-based video and collaboration a regular part of our everyday lives. This is especially true for recruiters and jobs seekers using those tools to accelerate job screening and interview processes. Now Roblox is looking to take the practice one step further by leveraging its own virtual platform to attract new talent.
Earlier this week, Roblox VP of Talent Acquisition Jason Buss announced the company's newest in-game innovation, the Roblox Career Center. Designed to be an immersive experience for job seekers and future team members, the career center provides access to interview preparation materials, books to prepare for upcoming interviews, and a room dedicated to the problem solving assessments that the company uses to evaluate potential hires.
A critical part of any job interview is an understanding of the work environment. The new center provides Roblox with an outlet for sourcing new talent that already has a deep understanding of the platform, its features, and processes required for creating new experiences.
According to Statista's Roblox age distribution findings, more than 60% of the game's ~200 million active users are under the age of 16, with more than 20% under the age of 9. So, what does that have to do with recruiting new talent? It means that a large portion of the platform's potential hires are unlikely to be truly familiar with the game.
Launched in 2006, Roblox has become one of the most popular game platforms online, allowing players and developers to create games and other interactive events, also referred to as experiences. Many of Roblox users (and creators who are still minors), develop more than 20 million game experiences per year using the Roblox Studio and the Luau programming language.
While interviews are not currently being conducted in the career center, the announcement mentions that future candidates for select positions could be invited to interview using the platform's recruiting space. Until then, the company intends to host a variety of interactive events in the new online center.
