Rogers launches Canada's first LTE network

Rogers Communications has launched Canada's first Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Ottawa. This fall, Rogers will roll out LTE to Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal as well. Later this year, Rogers customers will be able to get their hands on the first LTE smartphones from HTC and Samsung. At launch, the LTE Rocket stick will be capable of maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps, though typical download speeds will likely range from 12Mbps to 25Mbps.

Next year, the company will push out LTE to another 21 markets, for a total of the top 25 markets in Canada. To find out when LTE will arrive in your area, Rogers wants you to sign up at iwantmylte.ca to get updates.

Three months ago, Rogers announced its LTE network, tapping Ericsson as its supplier for the commercial deployment. LTE is the latest standard in the mobile network technology tree that produced the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies. The aim of LTE is to give users a mobile broadband experience similar to what they currently see with broadband for PCs at home and at work.

Rogers claims its customers will experience speeds that are between three to four times faster than HSPA+ with peak download rates of up to 150Mbps and upload speeds of up to 70Mbps. LTE will also deliver lower latency than HSPA+, which should make a noticeable difference in multiplayer gaming and media streaming. At the same time, it will deliver more usage capacity which means more users can access the network at top speeds without affecting overall network performance.

Unfortunately it's only Ottawa. And when there's no LTE you'll be falling back on roger's crippled HSPA network.
 
Unfortunately, it's Rogers.
Bandwidth caps are expected to be ultra low to the point of uselessness just for it being from them, although Rogers is a tab better than Bell in these terms.
I will be waiting for Wind, Mobilicity, Public Mobile to get LTE.

Side note, if you go to iwantmylte.ca, the image there shows LTE as being better than 4G, when in fact LTE IS 4G = more rogers ad trickery.
