I'm new here but would be really grateful for some help. A few days ago an old email account of mine was used (not by me) to send a spam email to everyone in my contacts list. I assumed my account had been hacked, but when I ran a scan of my computer it came up with a rootkit. I did some googling and I don't seem to have any of the other symptoms I've seen mentioned in relation to these, but it sounds pretty bad all the same. I would love whatever help anyone here can offer. I've seen some suggestions that rootkits can be pretty impossible to remove, and the computer may need to be wiped. Is this true?
Anyway, attaching logs as per the 8-step guide!
