What is making you think the router might be the problem?

when i do contact AOL or MSN.

AOL will not help because the router is not their brand make
MSN say its a router problem.

a freind who was behind a router also have problems using msn messenger.

it cant be adware, spyware, viruses etc because it has been like this for a year now, since this was a new computer.

im positive the only thing it can be is the router blocking a certain part that allows this stuff to work.

my firewall is turned off so its not that either.

read your router manual on How To Port Forward.
Normally, blocking all inbound requests is a feature of the router and
you really want it that way to stop Internet attacks.

Sometime we need to allow specifc ports access to an application, like
    msn messenger (default) port 1863.

The other setting you need is to enable the firewall to allow the connection.

Whenever you Port Forward, the filewall must also be adjusted accordingly.

thnx so if i try n work out how to open port 1863, msn should work????

it has no manual the people just installed it and that was it i think.

Did you try to reset the router? On the back there should be a reset button. Hold that for 10 seconds and it should cycle the router and restore it to factory defaults.
