Editor's take: Amazon is currently offering up to 33 percent off Samsung’s excellent 980 Pro SSD as part of its ongoing Prime Day sales event. Just make sure you pair it with a motherboard that supports PCIe 4.0 to achieve maximum performance. And while you’re at it, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to slap on an aftermarket heatsink as these drives can get pretty toasty under load.

The Samsung 980 Pro is among the best enthusiast-grade PCIe 4.0 SSDs money can buy. It went toe to toe with the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus in our head-to-head review earlier this year, earning itself a spot alongside the Sabrent drive in our Best Of series in the process. With the Prime Day discounts, it’s even more attractive.

Amazon is currently offering the 500GB model for just $99.99, representing a 33 percent discount over the standard $149.99 asking price. I’m also seeing a digital coupon on the listing that takes an additional five percent off the purchase price.

Should you not need that much storage, the 250GB variant is going for $69.99, a 22 percent discount over the normal rate. On the flip side, the 1TB model is down 13 percent to $199.99 and the 2TB model is down to $329.99, a savings of 23 percent.

You should be buying a 2tb or 4tb as MINIMUM.

They make great drives. So far, my 8TB Samsung SSD is great.

I have had one a while and although the results are stunning in benchmarks you aren't going to notice a dam thing in everyday use with it as a boot drive.

I abuse the hell out off my C drives - I abused a samsung 840 250Gb for years doing encoding - still going strong . My current setup is a samsung pro 1tb M2 drive = about to throw in another 2TB M2 drive - a cheaper one.
Your PC is there to work - I will not baby the drives -I won't have Chia either - With encoding , zipping, server, media production they make a big difference - Someone tested a bunch of SSD drives for years continue use - they did petabytes of writes - and these were smaller ones.

Plus you will need fast drives for the seamless gaming coming - no more elevators to hide loading

Depending on your workload. The Samsung sustains 1.7GBps write outside cache (https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-980-pro-m-2-nvme-ssd-review/4) I don't know any Sabrent that can do even close. There is a reason why it's called "Pro".

The Sabrent 1TB is the same price as the 980 Pro, but the Sabrent 2TB is ~$150 more than the 2TB 980 Pro.

Lol you have no idea of professional workloads do you.

I have nothing against Sabrent and in fact I have the Rocket 3.0 in my gaming machine, but for my workstation that 970 Pro really shines.
